Composite Doors: Everything you need to know

Composite doors have been on the UK market since the 90s and show no signs of going anywhere. More expensive than their PVC counterparts but cheaper than their posh cousins, Aluminium, Composite Doors perfectly straddle the line on affordability and performance, and we absolutely love them.

What do you get with a composite door?

The first thing to mention is energy efficiency. In UK homes we lose a lot of heat from our windows and doors, and composite doors perform incredibly well in combating this problem. When installed correctly your composite door will give you a perfectly sealed barrier to the elements, keeping your heating in and the cold out. If your current door is falling short you will notice a real, tangible difference.

Security

Composite is solid, heavy and hard-wearing, and when paired with a great locking system they are extremely secure. A good quality composite door (We love Hallmark and Solidor) will not only look the part but will also deliver, providing a secure barrier to your home and everything in it.

Durability

A well-made composite door will last 30 years at a conservative estimate, meaning once it is installed it’s unlikely you will be doing it again any time soon! Unlike PVC or timber, composite doors are built to last with very little maintenance required. Just a clean with warm soapy water and then a dry down now and then and you are good to go.

They look great!

Composite doors really do look and feel like timber. The wood grain finishes look fantastic and because they have a strong, dense composition they don’t have that lightweight ‘plasticky’ feel that, let’s face it, nobody wants! Composite doors are strong and solid and can be produced in a huge range of colours and styles, from period-style traditional doors that perfectly mimic their original timber counterparts to fresh, modern designs. Most are available in a selection cost cost-effective ‘off the peg’  colours but can also be made to order in any  RAL colour if you would like something more personalised.

In summary…

Composite doors are reliable, energy-efficient, long-lasting and look great. If you need to replace your front door, look at our composite door page via the link below, and get in touch if you would like a no-obligation quote.
