At Habify, we don’t just supply and install premium windows and doors, we also create the structural openings needed to bring your vision to life. Whether you’re adding a new set of bi-fold doors, widening an existing doorway, or knocking through internal walls to open up your space, our in-house team can handle the entire process from start to finish.
A structural opening involves modifying or creating an opening in a load-bearing or non-load-bearing wall to accommodate new windows, doors, or open-plan layouts. This could mean adding a brand new set of patio doors, fitting a larger feature window, or combining two rooms into one light-filled space.
The placement of your doors and windows can dramatically change how your home feels and functions. Our structural openings service makes it possible to:
Create wider doorways or openings for sliding or bi-fold doors
Add new windows or rooflights to bring in more natural light
Knock through internal walls to connect spaces such as your kitchen and dining room
Replace small patio doors with full-height glazing for a modern, open look
Our expert team will handle everything, from structural design and steel calculations (RSJs) to building regulations compliance and finishing work, ensuring the transformation is both beautiful and safe.
The possibilities are endless, here are some of the most popular ways homeowners across Norfolk and Suffolk are reimagining their homes with Habify:

Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about Structural Openings. If you’d like more details or have any other queries about our services, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
A structural opening is when part of a wall is safely removed or altered to create space for a new window, door, or open-plan layout. This can involve installing RSJs (rolled steel joists) or lintels to support the remaining structure. At Habify, we carry out both internal and external openings from new garden doorways to large open-plan kitchen conversions.
Costs vary depending on the wall type and size of the opening, but as a guide:
Internal knock through (non-load bearing): £1,000 – £3,000
Load-bearing wall with RSJ: £3,000 – £6,000
New window opening: £750 – £2,500
New door opening: £1,000 – £6,000
Prices above are given as a guide, each project and building is different.
