Last year, in the brief window of freedom between lockdowns, Chris Reeve started a football team. North Elmham FC were able to play a few friendlies in the autumn and, before training was put on pause for the latest Coronavirus restrictions, the club boasted one men’s team and three juniors.
We were approached to sponsor the club and we were more than happy to support a community team and get our company name on their football shirts.
With a squad of 23 turning up for training each week, Chris was able to put together a good side and play in friendlies against some local Reserves.
Mr Reeve told the Eastern Daily Press: “We have won some and lost some, but the boys were so proud to beat a team four leagues above the one we’re going into. We were also happy to have around 50 people watching the match – for only starting four months ago we must be doing something right.”
This year, the men’s team hope to compete in the Central and South Norfolk League. All being well, matches in this league will kick off at the end of the summer. Judging by their early successes, North Elmham FC have got their eye on some silverware for the club trophy cabinet!
