Is it worth putting a warm roof on a conservatory?

Table of Contents

Whether you are planning a new conservatory or looking to install a solid roof on your old conservatory, you will probably have heard about warm roofs. Energy efficient and durable, these roofs are designed to weigh no more than a glazed roof so they can safely be installed on most conservatories, giving the look and feel of a classic timber framed structure but without the weight. When done well, these roof conversions will give your conservatory the look and feel of a modern extension. Additions such as Velux windows and even roof lanterns further enhance the space.

So, is it worth it?

Warm roofs come with a whole host of benefits compared with a classic glazed conservatory roof. The first key benefit is your room temperature and energy efficiency. At Habify we use the Guardian Warm Roof – this system has been independently tested for efficiency using thermal analysis and has a U value of 0.15 W/m². (Hint: The lower the value the better – 0.15 is extremely efficient).

This means that rather than searing heat in the summer and freezing cold temperatures in winter, a warm roof conservatory will retain heat in your home when you need it and protect you from extreme heat in the summer. This makes the space usable all year round, and as such many homeowners choose to remove their dividing internal doors, making their conservatory space integrate fully with the rest of the home.

A warm roof is also worth considering if you have problems with mould and condensation in your conservatory. Many traditional glazed conservatory roofs are not well ventilated, causing moisture to gather, creating mould and staining. A warm roof from Habify eliminates this problem – it has slots built into the beams which allow air to flow through the roof instead of trapping it inside the room.

Any other benefits?

  • Reducing sun glare

If sun glare is an issue in your current set up, a warm roof could definitely help. We can take you through options for roof lights or velux windows (or no glazing in your roof at all) to find a solution that gives you the light, airy feel you want from your conservatory without overwhelming sunlight at certain times of the day.

  • Reducing weather noise

Because of their superior design and insulation, our warm roofs help eliminate intrusive weather noise such as wind and rain leaving your space quiet and tranquil.

  • Peace of mind

Your new roof will be engineered precisely to your individual needs and reassembled in Guardian’s state of the art factory to ensure their high quality standards are met. The roofs are building control approved and have a 10 year guarantee and a 40 year roof tile guarantee.
