Opening up the space

This Edwardian style conservatory had a glazed roof that was noisy and looked unappealing. The conservatory was shut off from the rest of the home by internal doors meaning it was a relatively unused space for most of the year.

The goal with this project was to open up the space and make it feel like part of the home, giving this family the extra space they needed. The homeowners chose a tiled conservatory roof replacement because of it’s superior insulation properties, as well as it’s extension-like feel.

Project Plan

Our four step process

Step 1

Remove the old roof and make conservatory watertight.

Step 2

Commence tiling and lead work including electricals. Ensure box gutter is installed correctly.

Step 3

Insulate the roof and plasterboard internal structure. Complete the internal and external works, including new guttering and rainwater pipes.

Step 4

Remove internal doors. Reconnect electrics then complete internal plastering. Internal painting and clean down.

Project completion

This project was completed over seven days. In order to fully integrate the conservatory with the rest of the home we removed some internal doors, then replastered and painted the space including window sills and skirting boards, giving the room a fresh, clean finish.

Karl and Michelle chose a slate grey tile for their roof to complement the tiling on the main roof of the property. The roof was solid throughout without the need for velux windows or roof lights, giving them the cosy living room feel they were looking for.
